When it doesnt crash, the app is fantastic, but it crashes A LOT! It also has a ton of outdated content that needs to be removed or altered. Itll do until Atlas Obscura build their own app.

This App was recommended by a travel blog, so I downloaded it. I decided to try it while sitting at home. In just a six block area surrounding me, I found 4-5 restaurants that were closed, one furniture store that was closed, and 3 items that were in the wrong location on the map. Also the amount of duplication, and the reliance on one publication in particular doesnt lead to great content. A lot of the articles list multiple restaurants around town, so while that closest restaurant may be closed the article stays posted inside the App for the other restaurants. One particular block had over 40 cards, most associated with one or two establishments. Who would have time to read all that, or how do you decide which ones to read. It makes me wonder when I go someplace Im not familiar with, how badly will this App lead me astray. Yelp seems like a better choice for bars and restaurants. The Field Trip App is probably good for historical content that doesnt change, otherwise it doesnt seem to be actively curated, at least near me. I live in the middle of a major metropolitan city. Of course TripAdvisor is great for historical content, architecture, etc. I have not even enabled notifications, and wonder how often these will come and how useful they will be. Based on some of the reviews, not so much. The relationship with Google is not clear. While Id ask you to login with the Google sign in, defaults to Google Maps and Google Chrome, the App seems to be developed by Niantic, the same company that is behind Pokemon Go. I have not read anything online that indicates that Niantic is owned by Google (not that this is implied it anywhere in the app either). I may try it for a little while around town, and maybe on a trip where I am familiar with the city already, but it seems like this App is destined to be deleted.
Information is false need updating
This is a pretty neat app. Already learned about a few places locally. Great for travelling to get info on the space around you.
Super usefull
This app rocks. Its a mobile history lesson. Impress your friends with all of your new found knowledge of local obscure history!
Shows neighboring town but very little from my own town-like nothing on the still operating farm that Henry Ford started for the sole purpose of trying out the Ford tractor before putting it in production. A designated historical farm so shoulda been easy to find. Plenty of historical Ford places here.
Very fun and interesting app. I havent seen one like it yet.
Great idea! Just few cons: Limited sharing option Font is not impressive Too much words
Its bad
Excellent app! Very interesting!
Just google trying to find out about everywhere I go to send me ads. Just tired of it.
Very good idea, but needs some improvement. It would be very nice if there was a filter for the categories. That would get it up to 4 stars in my mind. Also, some of the markers are the exact same thing. For example, a restaurant called Vinsetta Garage shows up twice.
This app is a great idea, but the functionality on my iPhone is terrible. When I click the title of a card, it takes at least 15-20 seconds to open. Similar non-responsiveness for closing a card. My device is a 4S 8GB.
Just downloaded this app and in my town, it is showing places that have not existed in many years. This would cause people to get off the interstate to come into towns to view buildings that havent been here in several decades. It may be OK for history but not for visiting locations that do not exist.
I just did a 3000 mile road trip and tried to use this app. It was mostly useless. It didnt find most of the local attractions and the information was limited. Stick with Trip Advisor.
Gives a very comprehensive list of plaques that are clearly marked. We started calling it the "what did we miss" app for the notifications 2 miles after passing the point of interest. Filters for radius would be handy. It was only useful in places we stopped for other reasons, as it doesnt give any advance warning.
I downloaded this yesterday after reading about it in a related app review. Its very impressive! I commute from NJ to NYC by train every morning, and the app kicked in immediately, pointing out interesting I could see from my train window. I set it to read the title and description, and the narration voice is very smooth! Love it.
Even after upgrading to the latest ios and app versions, the app crashes upon opening. Useless.
So I was in Europe on vacation and had some success finding neat things via this app. Once I was home in the US it all fell apart. At one point I got a notification telling me the names of all the interstates running through my town. Another let me know I was near a hospital, which might have been useful if I was bleeding. Whatever dataset they are using is filled with a lot of boring, uninteresting locations and needs to be pruned.
